The objective of my research project is to document the sensitivity of surface models to various representations of the plant-water relationship, especially during droughts. To do this, I will modify surface models to explore a range of numerical representations of the plant-water relationship during periods of water deficit. The exercise will be repeated for several bioclimatic domains in the northeastern United States, particularly southern Quebec, and will identify the best formulations for each situation, in addition to quantifying the sensitivity of the models to these functions. The improved surface models will then be tested in the northeastern United States during severe weather conditions with the aim of improving evaporation and surface models.
